A beautiful stag lives in the forest. His coat is iridescent, like a rainbow, and he knows that he would be hunted if he was ever seen by a human. One day, the stag saves a man whose life is in danger. The man promises to keep the stag’s existence a secret as a favour for saving his life, but when he's offered a reward to reveal the stag's location, what will he do?

The Legend of the Rainbow Stag

Ali's Boat is a poetic story full of dreams and adventure, tinged with melancholy. Inspired by a special letter from his young nephew, Ali, the story is also a deeply personal reflection on contemporary artist Sadik Kwaish Alfraji's impressions of his childhood in Iraq. Ali's Boat

The Sacred Hill is a story about four kangaroos — Blue, the plains kangaroo; Potsy, the potoroo; Treez the tree kangaroo; and Rocko the rock wallaby — who are happy living on the sacred hill until some rowdy myna birds disturb the peace. The roos are forced to leave their land, but thoughts of the hill are never far away. Soon they unite, embarking on an adventure that will lead them back home to the sacred hill.

Written and read by First Nations artist Gordon Hookey, of the Waanyi people, who also plays the didgeridoo you hear in the recording.

Have you ever wondered what a Welcome to Country is? Aboriginal communities across Australia have boundaries that are defined by mountain ranges and waterways. Traditionally, to cross these boundaries, permission is required.  When this permission was granted the ceremony now called Welcome to Country took place. Each community had its own way of welcoming to country, and they still do today.

This award-winning book is written and read by Aunty Joy Murphy AO, senior Wurundjeri elder of Melbourne and surrounds. 

Illustrated by Lisa Kennedy, a descendant of the Trawlwoolway People on the north-east coast of Tasmania.
