About the episode

Playing for the Brisbane Broncos in 2009. Selected in the Indigenous All Star in 2010. Scoring tries for the Maroons and playing for Australia in 2011. A career ending injury by 2012. Jharal Yow Yeh’s meteoric rise in rugby league was cut short when he was just 23 years old by a traumatic compound fracture in his right ankle, while playing, which I vividly remember watching. So how does somebody navigate the transition into life after sport, not only when the decision isn’t their own and especially when they seemingly still had so much of their career ahead of them?! This conversation with Jharal was incredibly powerful on how difficult that journey can be but also, how much impact a young man can make in normalising conversations around mental health and illness and asking for help, especially amongst other young men. I loved this chat with Jharal and I hope you do too!
