On this week's Eye on Travel Podcast with Peter Greenberg,  Peter takes a different look at Las Vegas, which has always been a great indicator of the American economy in general. 

But for the first time in recent history, the numbers in Las Vegas are down, and depending on who you talk to, anywhere from 9 to 17% down. You can look at that figure any number of ways:  representing the number of visitors, how much they're spending, or how many days they're going to be there. 

But one thing about Las Vegas always seems to transcend the numbers. It's the most resilient destination and almost always seems to bounce back.

In the past, it was gaming revenue that sustained the city. Not anymore. Gambling is still generating revenue, but it's no longer numero uno. 

Today, the economy of Las Vegas is being driven by two main factors, sports and entertainment, and food. 

Peter speaks with Lance Evans - the Senior VP of Sports and Sponsorships at MGM Resorts -  for some surprising figures.  Then, with more sommeliers and celebrity chefs per square foot than any other city, Peter looks at a different way to experience the city's gastronomy. And finally, Peter learns about the history of Las Vegas through the lens of the curator of the Nevada State Museum, with a number of surprises.

Sadly, the legendary American flag carrier stopped flying 34 years ago, but its robust history lives on. And recently, the iconic airline brand was revived and repositioned. To commemorate its reemergence, a special plane was repositioned, repainted, and brought back for one special mission.

Peter sat down with some great storytellers, ranging from former Pan Am purser Quito Bailey, Pan Am passenger Cynthia McMillan, journalist Seamus Hennessey, and Margaret O'Shaughnessy, the founding director of the Foynes Flying Boat and Maritime Museum.
